Hey everyone, just hoping to get some suggestions on some drilling regimens I can do during the week when we're not meeting up. I don't have a pell yet, by the way, so just shadowing drills and stuff. I've done the first bit of the Meyer Drill at the meet up, but just wondering if people in the group have a "100 Zornhaus, 100 Unterhaus, etc." type of practice session to build up form, speed, and the obvious physical conditioning that comes with it. Thanks!

Hey! I don't any official drill regiments when I practice, ala the Meyer Drill. Usually I'll practice striking combinations that I think will work on a person based on what I've read in some of the historical documents. For example it works well for me to do a right Zornhau, go into left Plough and strike from there, go into Left Ochs and strike from there, and return to a basic warrior position from that point to get en garde. It also has been helpful to try going from Zornhau to Plough and thrust from there, then going into a Mordschlag or a fake out Mordschlag. Another one I like would be to do a Zornhau or even just strike from the Roof so that you imagine yourself getting into a winden situation and then practicing the movements to get a successful thrust in from the winden, or practice getting into a winden and then whatever grappling tactic you have in mind afterwards. I like this sort of thing because you can do it all with a shadow, it builds speed, and it builds the intuitive sort of body memory you may need to strike without having to overthink.

All,

Here are some photos of my drilling area (the dojo) that I made to practice and maintain combat fitness:

Closer view with better Halberd detail.

Pell - made from telephone pole, rope, 2x4 with metal handles, and some galvanized spikes.

Home-made military flail.

View farther back with better footwork circle detail.

Enjoy!

Holy crap! That's awesome! I love the spray paint, haha! This seriously makes me hate living in an apartment complex, with no backyard/room to practice in. Have to stick to parks, I guess. Thanks for posting, it's good inspiration.
