This is a monthly Open House event for the Martinez Academy of Arms in New York City. The Academy holds an Open House on the second Friday of every month.
For the June 13th Open House, the Martinez Academy of Arms will hold a special joint meet-up with the Italian Chat group. This Open House will focus on Italian Classical and Historical Fencing. A short overview of fencing history from the 16th century through the early 20th century will be presented along with demonstrations.
Of course, the Open House is an opportunity for you to have all your fencing/sword-fighting questions answered! Academy instructors will also be on hand to give you an introductory lesson.
** Please note: due to limited space, the Academy can only accommodate 20 guests for this event.
The Academy is open to visitors. Classes for the Martinez Academy are regularly held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 7 - 9 pm, at KHDT Studios, 330 Broome Street, New York, NY. The studio is also open from 6 to 9:45 pm for additional training and advanced fencing.
For more information, please visit Martinez Academy of Arms , and Styles and Weapons at the Martinez Academy

** We may be organizing a dinner afterwards at the close-by l'Asso, the only D.O.C. pizzeria in town. Please stand by for details.

Who attended?

    •  I had a great time.
    •  Thanks to the Italian Chat group. We had our biggest turnout yet!
    •  Friendly atmosphere and very informative. I look forward to coming back!
    •  It was really great to see all the Italian techniques.
    •  There were a variety of weapons and fencing styles (including medieval). The instructors were very experienced and helpful. Part of the session was a history lecture about fencing and demonstrations pertaining to the different schools. The intructors and students alike performed with much energy; drawing the attention of the audeince because of their enthusiasm. Towards the end of the Open House, we were given a lesson on the footwork involved in fencing. Overall, this was a very interesting, informing, and interactive meet-up. I look forward to taking classes here in the future.
